7. Modifying Firmware (Customization)

Method: Force Flash via FEL Mode (For Bricked Devices)

The Allwinner A23 has a built-in FEL (Forcely Execute Linux) mode – a low-level boot ROM that accepts firmware over USB. This works even if the device is completely dead.

Step 1 – Prepare PhoenixSuit

• Launch PhoenixSuit as Administrator.
• Click Firmware → Image and select your .img file.

Step 2 – Enter FEL Mode on the A23 Device

• Ensure the tablet is completely powered off (not just sleeping).
• Press and hold the Volume Down button (sometimes Volume Up or Home).
• While holding, plug the USB cable into the PC.
• Do not release the button until the PC detects a new device.

Step 3 – Driver Installation (First Time Only) If Windows asks for a driver, point it to: C:\Program Files (x86)\PhoenixSuit\Drivers\Allwinner. allwinner a23 firmware

Step 4 – Flashing Begins PhoenixSuit will pop up: "Formatting and upgrading, are you sure?" → Click Yes.
