If you own an older BMW (specifically an E36, E46, E38, E39, or E53) and you are tired of paying the dealership $150 just to read a fault code, downloading INPA 5.0.2 is a rite of passage. I recently downloaded the "new" 5.0.2 package to use with a cheap K+DCAN cable, and here are my thoughts after using it on my 2003 E46 330i.
When you finally open the program, you are greeted with a user interface that looks like it was designed in Windows 95. It is stark, translated (sometimes poorly), and unintuitive. There are no cute icons or guided wizards. However, this raw interface is exactly why enthusiasts love it. There is zero bloat.
The "502" in "BMW INPA 502" refers to a specific version or release of the INPA software.
