Step 3: Choose Your Installation Method

There are two primary methods for installing firmware on the iR-ADV 4245. Ensure your computer and the iR-ADV 4245 are

Method 1: Using the Remote User Interface (RUI) – Easiest for Most IT Admins

This method uses a standard web browser on your computer, like Chrome or Edge.

Steps:

  1. Ensure your computer and the iR-ADV 4245 are on the same network subnet.
  2. Find the printer’s IP address (press the Counter/Device Info button on the control panel).
  3. Open a web browser and enter https://[IP-Address-of-Printer] (e.g., https://192.168.1.100). Use https – not http.
  4. Log in as Administrator.
  5. Go to Settings/Registration > System Settings > Firmware Update.
  6. Click "Select File" and choose the .hfu file you downloaded.
  7. Click "Start Update".
  8. The device will reboot twice. Do not close the browser or turn off the printer. Wait for the "Update Complete" message.

Part 2: Prerequisites – What You Need Before You Start

A failed firmware update can "brick" your device, turning it into an expensive paperweight. To avoid this, verify the following:

  1. Administrator Access: You need the system administrator password for the iR-ADV 4245 (default is often 7654321 or something set by your IT team).
  2. Stable Power: The device must be connected to an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) . A power failure during installation will corrupt the system software.
  3. Network Stability: If updating via the network, use a wired Ethernet connection. Do not rely on Wi-Fi bridges or unstable VPN connections.
  4. Current Firmware Version: Write down your current version. Go to Settings/Registration > Preferences > Device Information > System Information. You will see the "System Software Version."
  5. Backup Data: Export your address book and custom settings. Use the "Export" function in the Remote User Interface (RUI) to save a .csv or .dat file.
