Casting Jeremy Renner was a strategic move to franchise viability. Renner brought a different energy to the role; whereas Jason Bourne was an amnesiac searching for his identity, Aaron Cross is fully aware of his past but desperate to secure his future. The film also features high-stakes action set pieces, most notably a climactic motorcycle chase in Manila, which pays homage to the kinetic energy of the original trilogy while establishing its own visual identity.
