Grim Dawn Save File Sharing Access

Feature: Grim Dawn Save File Sharing

Part 1: The "Transfer" vs. The "Donor" (Understanding the Saves)

Grim Dawn uses a straightforward, old-school save system (usually located in Documents/My Games/Grim Dawn/Save/). This is a blessing and a curse.

There are two main types of saves you will encounter:

The Golden Rule: Never download a "Level 100 All Skills Maxed" character if you want to actually play the game. You will be bored in 10 minutes. Instead, target Donor Characters—Level 1 mules loaded with endgame crafting mats and Legendaries.

5. Why this is "Useful"?

  1. Build Sharing Community: Currently, people share builds via "Grim Tools" links. This feature allows sharing the actual character instantly so others can try a specific build without leveling.
  2. Backup Safety: It prevents the tragedy of losing a level 100 Hardcore character due to a PC crash by offering one-click export/import.
  3. Cross-Platform Ease: Moving a character from Steam (PC) to GOG (PC) or to a friend's PC is seamless.

Step 5: Load and Respec

Go to Devil's Crossing. Use the Spirit Guide (next to the inventory guy) to respec all devotion and skill points. A shared file rarely matches your playstyle exactly.

4. Recovering Hardcore Characters

In Hardcore mode, death is permanent. However, some players share backup saves to "resurrect" a beloved character after an unfair death (e.g., a disconnect or a bug). This is a hotly debated ethical topic.

Part 5: Advanced Techniques – Modding, Editing, and Merging

Once you are comfortable with basic sharing, you can level up.

Part 4: The Ethics and Risks of Grim Dawn Save Sharing

Because Grim Dawn is primarily a single-player or peer-to-peer co-op game, there is no "anti-cheat." However, the community has a code of conduct.
