Grim Dawn uses a straightforward, old-school save system (usually located in Documents/My Games/Grim Dawn/Save/). This is a blessing and a curse.
There are two main types of saves you will encounter:
.gdc): The entire soul of your character. Gear, stats, quest progression, and stash..stash): Located in save/main/ – this is your shared stash. This is the holy grail of sharing.The Golden Rule: Never download a "Level 100 All Skills Maxed" character if you want to actually play the game. You will be bored in 10 minutes. Instead, target Donor Characters—Level 1 mules loaded with endgame crafting mats and Legendaries.
Go to Devil's Crossing. Use the Spirit Guide (next to the inventory guy) to respec all devotion and skill points. A shared file rarely matches your playstyle exactly.
In Hardcore mode, death is permanent. However, some players share backup saves to "resurrect" a beloved character after an unfair death (e.g., a disconnect or a bug). This is a hotly debated ethical topic.
Once you are comfortable with basic sharing, you can level up.
