Basic Rules
-
The Deal – Each player gets 5 flatcheez. They are placed face-down on the table. Do not look at them. Looking implies strategy, and Flatcheez has none.
-
The Toss Phase – On your turn, you must flick one flatchee into the air. While it spins, you shout one of the following nonsense words:
- “Spatch!” (for a fast flick)
- “Quibble!” (for a slow, wobbly flick)
- “Flarge!” (for when you accidentally hit the ceiling fan)
-
The Catch-or-Cower Rule – Before the flatchee lands, every other player must either:
- Catch it (gaining +1 point, which is bad – points are bad in Flatcheez), or
- Cower (yelling “Nope!” and hiding your hands under the table, which gives you a “Coward Chip” – three Coward Chips let you steal the Floppy Chee from anyone).
-
The Flatulence Gambit – If a flatchee lands on the floor and no one saw where it went, that flatchee is now “Void.” The player who last touched it must balance a saltine cracker on their nose for the rest of the round. This is non-negotiable. A Comprehensive Guide to the Game of Flatcheez:
Earthquake Flatcheez
Every 10 seconds, the next player taps the table once. This simulates “seismic activity.” Only the steadiest hands survive.
4. Core Mechanics
4.1 The Action Economy
The game has no turns. Instead, any player may perform an action at any time, provided no other player is currently performing an action. This creates a "real-time but respectful" phase. Actions are:
- Press (Requires the Press Die): You roll the die and apply the result to any stack of tokens within arm's reach.
- Spread (Requires the Spatula): You may use the Spatula to redistribute existing flattened cheese from the Membrane's surface to another location, but only to create a "bridge" between two upright tokens.
- Humidity Adjust: Once per 5 minutes, a player may lift the Humidity Dome for exactly 3 seconds, drying the surface and increasing friction.
4.2 The Press Die Results
| Roll | Effect | |------|--------| | 1 | Light press: Apply 2 Newtons of downward force for 1 second to a single token. | | 2 | Medium press: Apply 5 Newtons for 2 seconds. | | 3 | Heavy press: Apply 8 Newtons for 3 seconds. | | CRUMBLE | Any token under direct pressure splits into 2-4 irregular fragments. These act as independent tokens 0.5cm tall. | | MELT | The target token becomes semi-fluid for 10 seconds. It will flow downhill according to Membrane curvature. | | FLIP | You must flip the target token upside down. If it was previously partially flattened, the unflattened side now faces up. |
4.3 Stacking and Gravitational Collapse
Tokens can be stacked vertically. A stack's stability is determined by:
- Base width: Flattened tokens provide a wider base.
- Center of mass: If a stack leans more than 15 degrees from vertical, it is "unstable."
- Cheese cohesion: Two tokens of the same color may merge into a single 3cm-tall token if left undisturbed for 2 minutes.
If a stack becomes unstable, it undergoes Gravitational Collapse: all tokens in the stack fall in a random direction, potentially flattening other tokens or knocking them off the Membrane. Tokens that fall off the Membrane are considered "permanently flattened" (victory points for the player who caused the collapse). Basic Rules
