IMVU chat commands—ranging from simple avatar triggers to high-resolution photography tools—allow you to interact with the world and other users beyond basic text. Functional & Interaction Commands

These commands change how your messages appear or allow you to interact privately. /me [text]

: Often called the "narrate" feature, this displays your message as an action (e.g., typing [YourName] waves "). This is a staple for roleplayers on the IMVU Classic (3D Client) /whisper [AvatarName] [message]

: Allows you to send a private message to a specific user in a room. While anyone can receive a whisper, the ability to send them is a VIP feature [[OOC]] or ((OOC))

: While not a system-enforced command, typing text between brackets is the community-standard way to signify "Out of Character" talk during roleplay. Photography & Media Commands

Commonly used by "Producers" and creators to take high-quality screenshots for edits.

Part 9: Common Command Failures (Troubleshooting)

Issue: You type /sit but nothing happens. Fix: You are either too far from a functional chair, or the room has "Force Stand" enabled. Buy a "Sit Anywhere" badge or product from the shop.

Issue: /whisper shows up as normal chat. Fix: You have "Simplified Chat" enabled in Accessibility settings. Disable it to see whisper range.

Issue: /kick [name] says "Permission denied." Fix: You are not the room owner, and the owner has not promoted you to "Host." Ask for host rights. Part 9: Common Command Failures (Troubleshooting) Issue: You

Part 4: Camera & View Commands

Sometimes you need to zoom out for a room screenshot, or zoom in to inspect a texture. These commands override your mouse scroll.
