Sin embargo, los rumores sobre “Inframundo 4: El Despertar” (más allá de la película de 2012) han resurgido con una fuerza sobrenatural.
Pero cuidado: no confundamos. Oficialmente, la cuarta entrega se llamó Underworld: Awakening (Despertar). Pero el título que circula en foros y teorías de fans—Inframundo 4: El Despertar—apunta a algo más profundo. Un reboot, una secuela espiritual, o quizás el regreso definitivo de Kate Beckinsale como la icónica Selene.
The narrative of Inframundo 4- El Despertar wastes no time. Picking up shortly after the events of Underworld: Evolution, we find Selene (Kate Beckinsale) and her lover, Michael Corvin (Scott Speedman), in hiding. They are hunted not only by vampires and Lycans but by a new, terrifying foe: Humans.
In a brutal opening sequence, a human paramilitary strike force known as "BioCom" led by the pragmatic Detective Sebastian (Michael Ealy) raids their hideout. El Despertar introduces its core twist during this time jump. Humanity has won the war. A global purge known as "The Purification" has eradicated 90% of vampires and Lycans. Selene awakens from a cryogenic chamber in a research facility known as Antigen. She is disoriented, weakened, and discovering a horrifying truth: while she slept, a clone of her DNA was created.
Enter Subject 2, better known as Eve (India Eisley). Eve is the first hybrid born of a Vampire (Selene) and a Lycan (Michael). She is the "awakening" the title refers to—a new species emerging from the ashes of the old. The plot shifts into high gear as Selene breaks free, retrieves her signature twin pistols and coat, and fights to protect Eve from a Lycan leader hellbent on harvesting the girl's blood to evolve the Lycan race into an unstoppable force.
Inframundo 4- El Despertar was shot in 3D using the Red Epic camera system, a first for the franchise. The result was a visually crisp, dark, and immersive experience. However, the film drew criticism for one specific reason: its runtime.
At only 88 minutes, El Despertar is the shortest film in the Inframundo series. Many critics felt the pacing was hyper-accelerated, leaving little room for the atmospheric tension that defined the first movie. Furthermore, the absence of Scott Speedman (Michael Corvin) angered a segment of the fanbase, even though his face appears via CGI in one crucial flashback scene.
Despite these issues, the film was a box office success, grossing over $160 million worldwide against a $70 million budget, proving that audiences still craved Selene's brand of Gothic violence.
