| Proxy Type | Speed | Anonymity | Best For | |------------|-------|-----------|----------| | HTTP/HTTPS | High | Low-Moderate | General downloading, file hosters | | SOCKS4/SOCKS5 | Moderate | High (SOCKS5) | Bypassing geo-blocks, torrents via JD2 | | Transparent | Very High | None (your IP exposed) | Useless for bypassing limits | | Anonymous | High | Medium (hides your IP, reveals proxy) | Most free hosters | | Elite/High Anonymity | Moderate | Complete | Sensitive operations |
For JDownloader 2, SOCKS5 is the gold standard because it works with virtually all hoster plugins and supports authentication. However, most free proxy lists are flooded with HTTP proxies.
After importing, go to Settings > Advanced Settings. Search for these keys: Jdownloader2 Proxy List
ProxySelector.useProxyForDownloads – Set to true.ProxySelector.proxyRotationStrategy – Change from "NONE" to "ROTATE_ON_BAN" or "ROTATE_ON_FAILURE". This automatically cycles proxies when JD2 detects a hoster block.ProxySelector.maxRetriesPerProxy – Set to 2 or 3. Avoid endless retries on dead proxies.Advanced Settings, search for maxsimultaneousdownloads per proxy to avoid overloading.logs/ folder. Helpful for debugging blocked IPs.A practical cron job (Linux/macOS) or scheduled task (Windows) to refresh your JD2 proxy list:
#!/bin/bash
# Fetch and test proxies, then update JD2 config
JD2_CONFIG="$HOME/.jd2/cfg/org.jdownloader.api.proxy.ProxyController.json"

8. Legal & Ethical Note
Using proxies with JDownloader2 to avoid paying for content you don’t own may violate file host ToS. However, using proxies for privacy, regional access, or legitimate speed balancing is generally acceptable. Always respect copyright laws and download limits.
2.1 Free Proxy List Sources (Use with Caution)
These sites provide constantly updated lists. But you must filter them. ProxySelector
- ProxyScrape (proxyscrape.com) – Offers a dedicated free proxy list with HTTP/SOCKS4/SOCKS5. They provide a clean, comma-separated list perfect for JD2.
- Free-Proxy-List (free-proxy-list.net) – One of the oldest. Allows filtering by anonymity level. Export as text.
- SSLProxies (sslproxies.org) – Focuses on HTTPS proxies, which are safer and more compatible.
- SocksProxy (socks-proxy.net) – If you need SOCKS proxies only, start here.
- Github Repositories – Search for “proxy list” on Github. Many users upload daily updated lists. Example:
github.com/clarketm/proxy-list.
The problem with free lists: Up to 80% of proxies will be dead on arrival. The remaining 20% are heavily abused (thousands of users share the same IP), so hosters block them quickly.
Step-by-Step Import
- Open JDownloader 2 and go to Settings (gear icon).
- Navigate to Connection Manager (sometimes under "Advanced Settings" in older versions; in recent builds, it's a left-side tab).
- Click "Add" or "Import proxy list".
- Manual entry: Enter IP, Port, choose proxy type (HTTP/SOCKS5), and add authentication if needed.
- Bulk import: JD2 accepts
.txt or .csv files with format: protocol://ip:port or ip:port:protocol.
- Check "Use proxy for downloads" and "Use proxy for online checks".
- Click "Test proxy" – JD2 will send a test request. A green checkmark means live.
