Minios10 Ltsc - V202002
Note: This review is based on the typical characteristics of MiniOS releases, as “v202002” is an older build (around February 2020). Actual performance may vary depending on hardware and the specific source of the ISO.
What is MiniOS?
MiniOS is a lightweight, compact version of Windows created by third-party developers (not Microsoft). It is designed to run on older computers, low-end hardware, or for users who want a stripped-down, fast operating system without the bloatware found in standard Windows installations. minios10 ltsc v202002
1. Long-Term Stability and Support
The defining feature of LTSC 2020 is its support lifecycle. Note: This review is based on the typical
- 5-Year Support: It receives mainstream support for 5 years from its release date (unlike the 10-year support of older LTSC versions like 2019, due to a policy change by Microsoft).
- No Feature Creep: The OS does not force major version upgrades (e.g., moving from 20H2 to 21H2). This ensures that software and drivers validated for the OS will continue to work without disruption for the lifecycle of the device.
4. Compatibility & Driver Support
- Drivers: Works with generic drivers, but manufacturer utilities often fail (e.g., Lenovo Vantage, Dell Command Update) due to missing services. Manual driver install via
.inf works.
- Software:
- Runs: Firefox, Chrome, Office 2016/2019 (slow on very low RAM), VLC, 7-Zip, SumatraPDF, older games (2000–2012).
- Fails or errors: Adobe Creative Cloud (requires several services), VirtualBox (needs missing networking components), any .NET 4.8 app that assumes Task Scheduler exists.
- Updates: No security patches since 2020 – critical risk if connected to the internet.
3. Features Removed (The “Mini” Factor)
Here’s what’s gone compared to LTSC: What is MiniOS
- ✅ Windows Update (completely disabled – service removed)
- ✅ Windows Defender / Security Center
- ✅ Action Center
- ✅ Cortana & Search (basic search works)
- ✅ All UWP apps (Calculator, Photos, etc.)
- ✅ BitLocker, Hyper-V, Windows Sandbox
- ✅ Print and Document Services (spooler can be added back via a script)
- ✅ Telemetry & most background tracking
- ✅ Task Scheduler (many tasks deleted)
What remains:
- Classic Control Panel
- Notepad, Paint, Calculator (old Win32 version)
- Command Prompt & PowerShell (basic)
- File Explorer (slightly skinned)
- Network & sharing (SMB client works, server removed)
- USB & audio drivers (basic)
3. No Telemetry / Bloatware
- Removes Cortana, Windows Store, Edge (old version), OneDrive, and most background services.
- Reduces CPU/memory usage significantly.
Purpose and target users
- Use case: Systems needing a stable, low-maintenance Windows environment with minimal background services — embedded devices, kiosks, VMs, older hardware, or users who prefer very small installs.
- Target audience: Power users, system builders, IT technicians creating purpose-built systems, and hobbyists seeking a minimal Windows image.
