Here’s a sample forum-style post for someone looking at TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900 / N9000) — commonly referred to as the N7000 by mistake, though the N7000 is actually the original Galaxy Note. I’ll assume you meant the Note 3 (SM-N9000 Exynos).
[Guide/Discussion] TWRP on Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N9000) – Working build & install tips
Hey everyone,
I was looking around for a stable TWRP for the SM-N9000 (Exynos, international 3G) variant of the Note 3. Most links on the official TWRP site point to ha3g – that’s the right device codename.
Latest working version for me:
TWRP 3.7.0_9-0 (ha3g)
Download:
Official: https://twrp.me/samsung/samsunggalaxynote3exynos.html
Direct: twrp-3.7.0_9-0-ha3g.img.tar
How I flashed (from Odin):
- Put device in Download Mode (Vol Down + Home + Power)
- Open Odin 3.13.1 (run as admin)
- Load TWRP
.tarfile intoAPslot - Uncheck “Auto Reboot” in Odin Options
- Flash, then manually reboot to recovery (Vol Up + Home + Power) after flash – critical to stop stock recovery from overwriting TWRP
Known issues:
- MTP doesn’t always work on first boot – toggle it off/on in Mount settings
- Decryption of stock Android 5.0 requires pattern/password; custom ROMs (Lineage 18.1+) work fine
ROMs tested with this TWRP:
- LineageOS 18.1 (unofficial)
- HavocOS 3.12
- Stock rooted XXUGBOxx
If anyone has an N7000 (original Note), TWRP is still available here: https://twrp.me/samsung/samsunggalaxynote.html (n7000)
Let me know if you’re having bootloop issues after flashing – make sure you’re on the KitKat bootloader for best compatibility.
Cheers

| Odin doesn’t see the phone | Reinstall Samsung USB drivers, try a different USB port (USB 2.0 recommended), or change cables. |
| FAIL! in Odin | Disable “Re-Partition”, ensure you have the correct TWRP for hlte, and restart Odin. |
| TWRP boots but touch doesn’t work | You flashed the wrong variant (e.g., hlte on hltetmo). Download the correct version. |
| Stock recovery comes back | You missed the “boot directly into TWRP” step. Repeat Odin flash and interrupt the reboot. |
1. Allow System Modifications
- TWRP will ask, “Keep System Read Only?” – Swipe to Allow Modifications.
Verifying TWRP and first tasks
- On first boot into TWRP: allow modifications when prompted.
- Make a NANDroid backup immediately: TWRP → Backup → select Boot, System, Data (and others as desired) → Swipe to backup. Save the backup to external SD if possible.
- Optional: Install SU/root package or Magisk (if supported by your ROM/kernel) via TWRP → Install → select ZIP → Swipe.
Step 5: Prevent Stock Recovery Overwrite (Critical!)
- As soon as Odin says
PASS,disconnect the USB cable. - Remove the battery (yes, physically pull it out).
- Wait 5 seconds, then reinsert the battery.
- Boot directly into TWRP by pressing Volume Up + Home + Power. Do not let the system boot into Android first.
If you see the TWRP home screen (teal-colored with buttons like Install, Wipe, Backup), congratulations. You have successfully installed TWRP on your N7000.
Step 4: Boot Directly into TWRP (Critical Step)
Do not let the phone boot into Android normally after Odin finishes – Samsung’s stock recovery will overwrite TWRP! [Guide/Discussion] TWRP on Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N9000)
- As soon as you see the Samsung boot logo, immediately pull the battery (or hold Volume Up + Home + Power) to interrupt the boot.
- Then, boot into recovery: Volume Up + Home + Power.
You should now see the TWRP welcome screen.
2. Backup the Stock ROM (Nandroid Backup)
Even if you hate TouchWiz, keep a backup:
- Tap
Backup - Select: System, Data, Boot, EFS (critical for IMEI).
- Swipe to back up. Store the backup on your external SD card.
Step 4: Flash TWRP
- Click the Start button in Odin.
- The process takes about 5–10 seconds. You will see a green
PASS!indicator. - The N7000 will try to reboot automatically. However, Samsung’s stock ROM has a nasty habit of overwriting custom recovery on first boot. So:
