Philips Channel Editor — Update Post
Hello team,
We're releasing an update for the Philips Channel Editor. Summary of changes, impact, and required actions are below.
Actions required
- QA: run import tests with sample XMLs (duplicates, DST dates, malformed URLs).
- Release: tag v2.4.1 and publish installer builds for Windows and macOS.
- Support: prepare KB article covering re-import steps and batch-rename use.
- Dev: monitor error logs for import-related exceptions for 48 hours post-release.
2. Editing the Channel List
- Sorting: Click the "LCN" column to sort by logical number.
- Deleting: Highlight a row (e.g., a shopping channel or radio station) and press
Delete. You can CTRL+click multiple channels. - Renaming: Double-click the "Service Name" cell. Rename "BBC ONE Scot" to simply "BBC1."
- Favorites: Right-click a channel -> "Add to Favorite List 1."
- Hiding: Uncheck the "Visible" box to keep the channel in memory but hidden from the user.
Why You Need the Latest "UPD" Version
Using an outdated version of the Philips Channel Editor can lead to:
- Connection failures (Error: "TV not responding").
- Corrupted channel databases (loss of all channels).
- Incompatibility with Windows 10/11 (the old software was designed for Windows XP).
The Philips Channel Editor UPD (latest v2.9 or higher) is critical because it introduces:
- Windows 10/11 Driver Support: Modern serial-to-USB chipsets (Prolific, FTDI) are recognized.
- DVB Standard Updates: Support for HEVC (H.265) channels and new modulation parameters.
- Faster Upload Speeds: Uploading 999 channels goes from 15 minutes to 3 minutes.
