Pokemon Platino .cia !full! Page

A Pokémon Platinum .nds ROM file (you must provide this yourself).

NSUI (New 3DS VC Injector Ultimate) or a DS Game Forwarder tool on your PC. How to "Put it Together"

Prepare the Tool: Download a tool like the DS Game Forwarder Pack or Ultimate DS Forwarder Maker on your computer. Create the .cia:

Open the application and select your Pokémon Platino .nds file. Pokemon Platino .cia

Customize the banner, icon, and title name if the tool allows it. Click Export/Build to generate the .cia file. Transfer to 3DS: Connect your 3DS SD card to your PC.

Copy the newly created .cia file into the /cias folder on your SD card.

Ensure the original .nds file is also on the SD card (typically in a /roms/nds folder), as the Forwarder needs the source file to run. Install: A Pokémon Platinum

Put the SD card back in your 3DS and open FBI (the standard title manager). Navigate to your .cia file and select Install and delete.

Play: Pokémon Platino will now appear as a gift on your Home Menu. Alternative: Twilight Menu++

If you don't want to create individual .cia files for every game, you can install TWiLight Menu++. This acts as a menu for all your DS ROMs, allowing you to launch them directly from the SD card without needing to "inject" them as .cia files. Why Play Pokémon Platinum in 2026

Why Play Pokémon Platinum in 2026?

You might ask: "Why not just play Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl or Pokémon Legends: Arceus?" Here is why veterans keep returning to Platinum:

  1. The Battle Frontier: This is the single biggest reason. The remakes (BDSP) omitted the Battle Frontier entirely. Replacing it with a shallow Battle Tower was a huge disappointment. Platinum offers five unique facilities, including the Battle Factory (rent Pokémon) and the Battle Castle (earn CP for items).
  2. Better Pokédex: Diamond & Pearl had only 151 Pokémon in the Sinnoh Dex, forcing you to use two Fire-types total (Chimchar and Ponyta). Platinum expanded this to 210, adding Houndour, Magmar, and Eevee pre-National Dex.
  3. Faster Gameplay: Diamond/Pearl had notoriously slow surfing and battle speeds. Platinum fixed the engine. It feels significantly smoother.
  4. The Distortion World: A gravity-defying puzzle zone controlled by Giratina. It is one of the most creative dungeons in series history.

Part 3: The Benefits of Installing Platinum as a .cia

Why go through the trouble of installing custom firmware (like Luma3DS or Boot9Strap) just to run a .cia? Here are the undeniable advantages.

Part 6: Legal and Ethical Considerations

This is the gray area.

  • The Law: Downloading a Pokémon Platino .cia file is copyright infringement unless you rip the game from your own physical cartridge. If you own a legitimate copy of Pokémon Platinum for the DS, creating a digital backup for personal use on a modded 3DS is generally considered "fair use" in many jurisdictions (though DMCA anti-circumvention clauses complicate this).
  • The Risk: Many third-party websites offering "free .cia downloads" are filled with pop-up ads, fake download buttons, and occasionally, files that contain viruses (though rare for .cia due to the console architecture, it is possible to distribute malware through fake "installers").
  • The Moral Stance: Because Nintendo no longer sells Pokémon Platinum new (used copies cost $120+ on eBay), the argument for "lost revenue" is weak. However, distributing ROMs is still illegal.

Recommendation: If you want to be 100% legal, buy a used copy of Pokémon Platinum, dump the cartridge using GodMode9 on your hacked 3DS, and convert that dump into a .cia yourself.
