5. Post-Installation: DAW Integration

Because ReaPlugs does not write to the Windows Registry to force DAWs to find them (unlike some larger plug-in suites), manual scanning is often required. REAPER: No action required

  • REAPER: No action required. REAPER natively detects ReaPlugs in their default locations instantly.
  • Ableton Live: Navigate to Options > Preferences > File/Folder > Plug-In Sources. Ensure "Use VST2 Plug-In System Folder (x64)" and "Use VST3 Plug-In System Folder" are toggled ON. Click "Rescan".
  • FL Studio: Navigate to Options > Audio Settings > Manage Plugins. Click "Find more plugins". FL Studio will detect the VST3s automatically. For VST2s, you may need to add C:\Program Files\ReaPlugs\VSTs to the "Search paths" list.
  • Cubase/Nuendo: VST3s will appear immediately. For VST2s, go to Studio > Plug-in Manager and add the ReaPlugs VST directory to the VST2 Paths list, then rescan.

Common Issues & Fixes:

| Issue | Solution | |-------|----------| | Plugins not showing | Verify the VST path is correct in your DAW’s settings. | | Missing DLL errors | Install the latest Visual C++ Redistributable (x64). | | Crash on scan | Some DAWs dislike the old GUI. Try running DAW as administrator once. |

7. ReaXcomp (Multiband Compressor)

This is a powerhouse: A multiband compressor that splits the audio into up to 4 user-defined frequency bands, each with its own ReaComp engine. Perfect for de-essing, mastering, or controlling unruly low-end without affecting the high frequencies.

6) Using ReaPlugs in a typical workflow

  • Insert ReaEQ on a track for surgical equalization:
    • Create an audio or instrument track → Add FX → choose ReaEQ → use bands for bell, shelf, or high/low pass filters; enable spectrum display.
  • Use ReaComp for dynamics:
    • Set threshold, ratio, attack/release; enable lookahead or sidechain if host supports routing.
  • ReaDelay/ReaVerb for time and space:
    • ReaDelay: set tempo sync or ms values, feedback, filter on the repeats.
    • ReaVerb: load impulse responses or use convolution for realistic rooms.
  • ReaTune for pitch correction:
    • Use automatic correction mode for transparent tuning or manual mode for detailed editing.
  • Chain and route:
    • Place corrective plugins (EQ/compression) before creative FX (reverbs/delays).
    • Use send/return busses in your DAW for shared reverb/delay instances.

Step 5: Select Components

The installer will list all the plugins (ReaComp, ReaEQ, etc.). You can uncheck any you don't want, but realistically, they take up less than 10MB total. Install all of them.

Step 7: Configure Your DAW

Open your digital audio workstation.

  • FL Studio: Options -> Manage plugins. Click "Find installed plugins" or add the folder path (e.g., C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins) and then "Scan".
  • Ableton Live: Preferences -> File/Folder -> Plug-in Sources -> "Use VST2 System Folders" or add the custom folder to "VST2 Custom Folder". Rescan.
  • Cubase / Nuendo: Studio -> VST Plug-in Manager. Add the installation folder to the VST 2.x paths and run the rescan.
  • REAPER (ironically): Options -> Preferences -> VST. Add the path and rescan.

Troubleshooting Common Installation Issues
