Pro Tips for Electric Scooter Riders
Most electric scooters use sealed cartridge bearings in the wheels. You can’t really “repack” those. Instead, you replace them. But you can repack:
- The folding mechanism pivot points
- Suspension linkage bushings
- Steering column bearings (if they’re serviceable)
Check your brand (Ninebot, Apollo, Varla, etc.)—some use industrial sealed headsets that need replacement, not repacking. Scooter Repacks
🚫 Common failures (what NOT to do)
- ❌ Using WD-40 or lithium spray grease (too thin, washes out in 2 rides)
- ❌ Mixing grease types (lithium + marine grease = clumpy mess)
- ❌ Overpacking (too much grease creates drag and heat)
- ❌ Reusing bearings that have been submerged in water
When do you actually need a repack?
- Steering feels notchy (like it clicks into center position)
- Wheel spins but sounds like gravel
- You rode through rain or pressure washed your scooter (you shouldn’t do that)
