Smartgit License File May 2026

Feature: SmartGit License File Management

Default Locations of the SmartGit License File

SmartGit looks for the license file in specific directories depending on your operating system. These paths are not configurable via the GUI, but you can override them using environment variables (explained later).

Troubleshooting

  • “License invalid” — check for mismatched email/account, expired subscription, corrupted file, or modified system time.
  • “Activation failed” — ensure network access for online activation; firewall/proxy may block validation.
  • Transferring machines — deactivation via vendor portal or contact support to free seats.
  • If signature fails, obtain a fresh license file from the vendor; do not rely on untrusted modified files.

6. Troubleshooting

| Problem | Likely cause | |---------|---------------| | “Invalid license” | Version mismatch (license for 21.x but using 22.x) | | “License expired” | Renewal needed | | “License file not found” | Wrong folder or filename (must be exactly license) | | “Corrupted license” | Edited or truncated file | smartgit license file

Windows

  • Global (system-wide): C:\Program Files\SmartGit\smartgit.license
  • User-specific: %APPDATA%\syntevo\SmartGit\<version>\smartgit.license
    • Example: C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Roaming\syntevo\SmartGit\22.1\smartgit.license

Method 2: Manual Placement (Useful for Automation or Offline Machines)

  1. Locate your user-specific SmartGit settings folder using the paths above.
  2. If the <version> folder does not exist, create it.
  3. Copy your smartgit.license file directly into that folder.
  4. Restart SmartGit.
