Undercover Heat 1995 is a 1995 American erotic thriller film directed by James M. Cullen and starring Elena Vega, Jack Corrigan, and Rocco Santoro. The film follows a Los Angeles police detective who goes undercover as a bartender to investigate a string of arson murders linked to a nightclub owner, only to become entangled in a passionate and dangerous affair. Noted for its steamy cinematography and mid-1990s direct-to-video aesthetic, the film has since gained a small cult following among fans of the genre.
Why Isn’t There a Strong Wikipedia Page?
If you type “Undercover Heat 1995 Wikipedia” into a search engine, the results are often confusing. You might be redirected to a disambiguation page, a list of New Line Cinema films, or a very short stub that has been flagged for deletion. There are several reasons for this: undercover heat 1995 wikipedia
- Notability Guidelines: Wikipedia’s editors strictly enforce “notability.” A film must have significant coverage in reliable, independent sources (e.g., major newspapers, academic journals, authoritative books). Undercover Heat was reviewed by almost no major critic in 1995. It has no theatrical run box office data and no awards.
- The Gregory Dark Effect: While Dark is a notable director (having helmed See No Evil 2 and music videos), his early career in adult film leads many Wikipedia editors to treat his erotic thrillers with undue skepticism regarding their encyclopedic value.
- Merge Proposals: Historically, the article for Undercover Heat has been merged into a “List of American erotic thriller films” or redirects to Gregory Dark’s director page. These redirects are often invisible to casual searchers, leading to the “page not found” experience.
The Cast: Where Are They Now?
A major reason people search “Undercover Heat 1995 Wikipedia” is to locate the cast, many of whom vanished from Hollywood shortly after.
- Athena Massey (Vicki): The film’s centerpiece. Massey, a former model and Playboy Playmate (Miss April 1991), was the archetypal “femme fatale” of the direct-to-video circuit. Her resume includes The Dark Dancer and Expecting a Miracle. She retired from acting in the early 2000s.
- Michael Praed (Jim Fletcher): A British actor with a cult following for his role as Robin Hood in the 1980s HTV series. Undercover Heat represented a bizarre, hard-boiled detour in an otherwise period-drama-heavy career. He continues to act sporadically in British television.
- Meg Foster (Judge Cecilia Hall): The most recognizable face in the film. With her striking, ice-blue eyes, Foster is a legend of 80s and 90s genre cinema (They Live, Masters of the Universe). In Undercover Heat, she plays the corrupt judge who protects the drug ring. Foster is the film's connection to a legitimate Wikipedia page, as her entry lists the film in her filmography.
Release
The film was released direct-to-video in the United States on October 17, 1995. It received a standard VHS release and was later issued on DVD. In subsequent years, it has been available on various digital streaming platforms catering to classic B-movies and cult cinema. Undercover Heat 1995 | Undercover Heat 1995 |
The Quick Pitch
Imagine Basic Instinct mixed with a police procedural, but made for late-night cable TV in the mid-90s. That’s Undercover Heat.
Plot
In the sweltering summer of 1995, Los Angeles is hit by a record heatwave and a series of mysterious fires at nightclubs, each claiming a single victim. Detective Frank Mercer (Jack Corrigan), a burned-out vice squad officer, is assigned to go undercover at "Inferno," a popular club owned by the charismatic but volatile Vincent Cruz (Rocco Santoro). Mercer poses as a bartender named "Mick." The Cast: Where Are They Now
He quickly becomes fixated on Nina (Elena Vega), Vincent’s enigmatic girlfriend and the club’s lead dancer. As Mercer digs deeper, he discovers that each victim had a connection to Nina. Torn between his duty and his growing obsession, Mercer begins a secret affair with Nina. She claims Vincent is framing her, but flashbacks suggest Nina may have a dark past involving arson.
The climax occurs during a violent heat lightning storm. Mercer learns that Nina is not the killer but a former victim seeking revenge on the men who wronged her. Vincent is revealed as the true arsonist, using the fires to collect insurance and eliminate rivals. After a tense fight in the burning club, Mercer subdues Vincent and rescues Nina. The film ends ambiguously: Nina disappears into the night, while Mercer watches her go, unsure if he has caught a criminal or lost a lover.
