Rede Manchete, the original broadcaster, went bankrupt in the late 1990s. The master tapes of many of their productions were lost, destroyed in fires, or deteriorated due to poor storage. For years, Xica da Silva was considered a "lost media" gem. Only recently have high-quality versions resurfaced.
